Omer Kanipak received his professional degree from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Architecture in 1995. Two years after taking his Master’s degree from MIT School of Architecture, History Theory and Criticism department, he founded Arkitera Architecture Center in 2000 together with two of his colleagues. He held his position as the director of international relations of the centre until 2011. After stepping down, he participated in the foundation of the Design Atelier Kadikoy and worked as a director until mid-2014.
Currently, he is working as a freelance architectural photographer and as a communications consultant in his own company MASA Studio based in London and in Istanbul. In addition to his professional photography activities, he provides professional consultancy on communication strategies for architecture related institutions and architectural offices. He is also the co-founder of the Yercekim Architectural Photography founded in 2014 in Istanbul.
He was a visiting lecturer in Bahcesehir, Yeni Yuzyil and Kadir Has Universities until 2017. Kanipak frequently writes on various national and international publications, takes the role as a jury member or consultants of national and international architectural awards including the Architizer+ Awards, Aga Khan Award for Architecture, Mies van der Rohe awards for architecture, European Public Spaces Prize and The Pritzker Prize.
